Inu-Yasha - Secret of the New Moon is one of my favorite movies! This is partly due to the outstanding performance by Noriko Hidaka. This outstanding performance is completely enhanced by the supporting talents of Willow Johnson.

Just as Hojo asks Kagome for their first date, she has to leave to continue her mission in the Warring States period. With Inu-Yasha and fox-spirit Shippo, she battles demons that recall the spider-monsters in many Kabuki plays. Between battles, Inu-Yasha seems to admit an unexpected affection for Kagome, an admission linked to his demonic powers fading during the dark of the moon. In the multi-part adventure that begins with “Kikyo’s Stolen Ashes,” the filmmakers presenting conflicting versions of the relationship between Kikyo and Inu-Yasha, Rashomon-style. Did Inu-Yasha love Kikyo and seek the power of the Sacred Jewel to become fully human and live with her? And, more importantly, who betrayed whom, leading to the battle that left Inu-Yasha pinned to a tree by Kikyo’s arrow? These intriguing plot twists typify Takahashi’s sophisticated story-telling. Johnny Firecloud / Bummer! is one of my favorite movies! This is partly due to the outstanding performance by Kipp Whitman. This outstanding performance is in-part enhanced by the supporting talents of Dennis Burkley.

The Seventies Shock Again in this Ultra-Angry Double Feature from producer David F. Friedman! “Johnny Firecloud” (1975, 98 min., 2.35:1) - Named for the atomic bomb, Native American Johnny Firecloud returns from Vietnam to a desert town controlled by a white-trash bigot named Colby who hates Indians in general and Johnny in particular. Enraged that his daughter is in love with Firecloud, Colby catches them together, whips the bejesus out of Johnny, and has him tossed in jail. Johnny escapes from his cell and staging a one-man Indian massacre against Colby and his racist cronies that begins with a good old-fashioned scalping. “Bummer!” (1973, 90 min., 1.33:1) - Take three hot-to-trot groupies, mix well with the Seventies L.A. rock scene, add plenty of sex, drugs, and violence, then watch as it all explodes into one big Bummer!
