Think about how you have been conditioned to regard the subject of “retirement”. All of our lives, we have been taught to expect to save, save, save for some future thing called “retirement” without really having a solid understanding of what that means. (The truth is that “retirement” has an entirely different meaning from individual to individual.) The story goes on that one day, when you are tired and worn out from years of hard work you will have saved enough that you can reach a point at which you will become inert and no longer produce an income.

Isn’t it funny how everybody just sits back and takes as gospel what the government or society thinks about our personal lives? They have decided for us that “full retirement age” is 65 or 66 or 67 years of age. I, for one, don’t buy into that story. I choose to live my own life on my terms. What about you?

For many of us, much of our value and self esteem comes from our ability to provide for ourselves and our family. When you take away that income-producing capability, we feel worthless to society. When I retired the first time and quickly found myself bored and feeling worthless, I became very depressed and my self esteem took a dive. Soon, I had to go back to work to get back on an even keel. When I ‘retired’ last year, I decided that I will never quit ‘working’! Instead, I quit ‘having to work’! There’s a big difference.

Now, I have a setup where I can work if I wish or play if I wish - at my own discretion! I decided a couple of years ago that I could quit my everyday job, establish some more passive income sources and do what I want whenever I want - for the rest of my life! If the government wants to give me a Social Security check at some point in the future, I certainly won’t turn it down, but we can get along quite well without it, thank you.

Do you realize that you, too, can be in a position to do the same thing at any age and way before most people are conditioned to consider “retirement”? Well, it’s true. All it takes is you devoting the time and effort to establish some streams of internet income to support whatever lifestyle you would like to live. It is not difficult to do. It will take some work to accomplish it, but it will require very little money for you to begin your quest. If you take the time to study and learn about these various income sources, you will soon be able to reconsider your whole future, too!
