Gridiron Gang [Blu-ray]- To begin, this movie has a great beginning; it pulled me right into it.This is something not usually seen in movies of this type, so it makes it an unusual, yet pleasant experience.The action scenes are really great. Dwayne Johnson played his role great. Xzibit actually caught my interest.

I think Dwayne Johnson and Xzibit worked wonderful in Gridiron Gang [Blu-ray]. The great supporting cast includes Dwayne Johnson, Xzibit, L. Scott Caldwell, Leon Rippy, Kevin Dunn.

All in all, I would rate this movie an 8.5/10. I would definitely watch this movie again.

Summary of Gridiron Gang [Blu-ray]:

In Gridiron Gang, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson once again displays far more cinematic charisma than one could expect from a former professional wrestler. Sean Porter (Johnson, Be Cool), a football player turned juvenile detention counselor, wrestles with a seemingly insolvable problem: The vast majority of young men who leave detention fall right back into crime. Seeking a way to give these not-yet-hardened kids a taste of self-esteem and discipline, Porter persuades his superiors to let him teach the kids football–and then take on high school teams. Though based on a true story (documentary footage over the closing credits reveals that some dialogue was lifted straight from the real Sean Porter’s mouth), Gridiron Gang is pure underdogs-overcome-adversity formula. A formula is not necessarily a bad thing; when executed with skill and commitment, fulfilling a classic story mechanism can be perfectly satisfying, and Gridiron Gang qualifies. But it’s Johnson who carries it through, demonstrating–in the most unlikely of roles–a surprisingly gentle touch. Johnson manages to be manly without overbearing machismo, earning not only respect but empathy. –Bret Fetzer

They discover a small platoon of Germans hiding in the forest, but these soldiers would rather fight with snowballs than guns and exchange Christmas presents instead of mortar fire. The young, rather unsoldierly Americans are offered the opportunity to “capture” the Germans without a fight–until a fatal misunderstanding plunges their efforts into tragedy. Director Keith Gordon, who also penned the screenplay, creates an unusually eloquent, offbeat platoon drama shot amidst the tranquil beauty of a snow-covered forest. His excellent cast includes future stars Ethan Hawke and Gary Sinise, with Frank Whaley, Kevin Dillon, Arye Gross, and Peter Berg rounding out the platoon. Summary of In a Dark Place:

Anna Veigh, (Leelee Sobieski) a recently qualified art therapist and teacher is finding work a tougher psychological challenge that she had anticipated. The offer of a new position minding two young orphans while their wealthy uncle is away on business seems to be a perfect escape.

Her new workplace is Bly House, a remote country estate with beautiful grounds and a small resident staff. Miles and Flora, the children, seem sweet and charming. Anna thinks that she has really “landed on her feet” after the rigors of her previous job. However, Anna’s perfect world quickly begins to fade as she makes disturbing discoveries. Miles, the boy, has been expelled from his school, for a sin so dreadful the headmaster refrains from discussing. Anna then learns that her predecessor in the job died in suspicious circumstances. To add to her unease, Anna begins to catch glimpses of unknown sinister figures lurking on the grounds, however everyone denies their existence. Anna soon learns that the unknown figures are those of two ex-employees of the house.

The only problem is that both employees are dead. Anna senses that the ghostly manifestations possess evil intentions. Not only is the psychological welfare of the children in deep jeopardy, but their lives and souls are also at risk. Anna is forced to confront dark secrets buried deep in her own psyche as she fights to cleanse the children’s souls of darkness, with terrifying consequences for all concerned.

The four programs from the History Channel in this set profile America’s Founding Fathers, noting right at the outset they were a “mismatched group of quarrelsome aristocrats, merchants, and lawyers.” The story of how these disparate characters fomented rebellion in the colonies, formed the Continental Congress, fought the Revolutionary War, and wrote the Constitution is told by noted historians, and the production is enhanced with beautifully photographed reenactments as well as intelligent use of period paintings and engravings. The story begins with Samuel Adams and John Hancock in Boston, whose protests against British taxation led to the Boston Tea Party. Moving on to the Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia, the brilliant delegates from the South, particularly George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, appear on the scene, and the story is told of how an improbable cohesion between the colonies began. Other main characters, including Benjamin Franklin and John Adams, appear in turn, and each of the major participants is portrayed in a biographical profile. How these men all came to act together, despite the stark differences in their backgrounds and temperaments, becomes the main thread of the story. They were all quite human, as the historians who appear in interviews remind us. Some of them drank too much, some had illegitimate children, some owned slaves, and some could hardly get along with anyone.
